Mariana Magic
Mariana Hardwick’s latest collection, New Age Heirloom, draws inspiration from the ‘Belle Époque” or beautiful era, a period in European history that began during the late 19th century. Cascades of lace and ultra feminine clothes were in high demand, no expense was spared.
La Belle Époque was a wonderful time for fashion, a time when clothes showed off the female body with great elegance and style. Silhouettes of La Belle Époque focused on the female form giving the body shape through intricate corsetry techniques. Like gowns of the Le Belle Époque the latest collection from Mariana Hardwick has achieved a rich lavishness. Effortlessly romantic this collection showcases Mariana’s signature decorative techniques while maintaining modern simplicity.
A soft and romantic colour palette, matched with the most feminine of silhouettes and fabrications. Refined and delicate hues of pearl whites, ivory and latte with highlights of dusty lemon and lavender gives the collection a precious quality. Luxurious fine silk and silk satin, a soft mix of silk georgettes, organza’s and
sequin georgettes, satin crepe, beaded and silver gilt lace and embroidered tulles feature in the collection. Visit Mariana Hardwick at www.marianahardwick.com.au for further infomation.

Charmed I'm Sure
I'm on the lookout for interesting pieces to add to the charm necklace I'm making. I found Thomas Sabo online. The company started in Bavaria but has outlets all over the world including Australia. The range is modern and cute, with charms that would be perfect as a gift for all your bridesmaids. Try the nifty Charm Creator that allows you to add to a bracelet to see how your choice looks.

Baby Buzz
Our London Calling correspondent, Elizabeth Syer and her partner Colin are the proud parents of Oliver Felix Hugo Dimmock who was born in London, Friday night our time. We are thrilled to welcome a new member to the Style Guide team and can't wait to share some photos when we get them.

True to form Elizabeth was still sending through emails with inspiring ideas right up until the day she gave birth. She is probably reading this blog from her hospital bed right now!

All we have to do now is work out what gift to send - maybe something like these adorable hoodie jackets from Seed.

Hurry Up Summer
It's on cold winter days like today that a longing for summer sets in. My favourite swimwear designer, Zoe Elizabeth has the most gorgeous site full of sun-drenched images that capture the quintessential Australian summer. Perfect swimsuits for a sunny honeymoon.

Danny Snell
I'd like to introduce you to the work of an illustrator I admire, Danny Snell. He is a very talented designer who has produced work for some of the biggest agencies in the country as well as large publications such as the Financial Review. I love the evocative imagery and clever typography. I haven't seen Danny for years but after chancing a look at one of his illustrations in a design book last week and then seeing him across a crowded supermarket over the weekend, I knew it was a sign I had to write about him. He's not only a brilliant illustrator, but a nice guy to boot!

How Magical
Here is something no-one else will give! A Wedding Jar Fairy by Lisa Kettell at Flickr. They are three-dimensional collages using photographs, glitter and flowers. A sweet, nostaglic take on the old adage of 'something old'. I love them.

More on Marie
I couldn't pass up the opportunity to show everyone this beautiful collage of pics devised by Bella Seven on Flickr. It's a real inspiration to see how Marie Antoinette has been depicted through time. The colours and embellishments are truly inspiring.

For anyone wanting more inspiration along this theme, be sure to visit our story, M is for Marie Antoinette from Issue 2.

Macaroon Magic
We've used them before in stories and they featured heavily in the Sophia Coppola movie Marie Antoinette - they are of course macaroons, those delicate little irresistible sweet treats.

We have it on good authority the best place to shop for macaroons is Ladurée in Paris. Not only is the store itself exquisite but the packaging is divine and worth keeping forever. And speaking from first hand experience, the macaroons are something else. Somehow, Emma managed to bring some back for us after her last trip to Paris. We all milled around the brilliant collection as if we were viewing a box of jewels. They were almost too beautiful to eat, but eat we did and they were fantastic.

Their newest addition is a selection devised by Tricia Guild, founder and Creative Director of Designers Guild. I love the colour combination and would snap this little box up in a heartbeat given half the chance.

Laduree's spectacular macaroon cake would make a fitting end to any celebration. Given their extensive flavour choices, there is sure to be a combination to suit every wedding. What fabulous inspiration.

Pop-up Placemats
Look at these clever placemats from Publique Living in San Francisco. The concept is so simple but so effective. Each placemat is cut from 100% recycled paper and has an area that can be handwritten with the guest's name. They were exhibited at the recent NY stationery show so no doubt we will see them in Australia soon enough, but I just wanted to share this great idea with everyone now.

Just Coasting
One of my favourite sites to visit is French General's. I'll often spend a good hour looking through all the lovely things they have on offer like these flourished drink coasters. US$12 for 12 + postage. From memory, they do ship internationally but contact them directly for details. Then make sure to visit the whole site so as not to miss out on any other little treats before making an order.

Wall Flower
I am in love with this Laura Ashley wallpaper named Wolcott. It would make a spectacular table runner for a yellow and black themed wedding like the one we featured in the current issue. It could be used to line envelopes, cover order of service booklets or wrap around votive holders. Finished with a yellow striped ribbon like the ones we used, it would be stunning.

The wallpaper is on sale in the UK, I can only hope it makes it to our shores and is on sale here too.
