Paris Packs a Punch
Paris Haute Couture Autumn/Winter 09/10

The biggest spectacle in fashion is of course the Paris Haute Couture shows. In the lead up to the fashionable fanfare many wondered whether Christian Lacroix would still be showing his collection due to the much publicised financial state of the mega-brand. He showed his critics a polished collection that wasn't over the top, a collection, that in this day in age, is relatively cool, calm and collected for Haute Couture. Christian Dior was, of course, over the top with the most divine corsetry and billowing, structured skirts. Underware as outware has never looked more refined. The newest member to the exclusive couture club, Alexis Mabille, was big on bows and showed relatively simple pieces that were made to perfection. In this case less was way more. As always Armani Prive showed just how incredibly sexy slinky, embellished gowns can be. Royal blue seemed to be the popular choice for Mr Armani and quite a fitting alternative to black, which made an appearance at every show. It seems that maybe black was the safest choice considering our current economic climate? I'll review the remaining shows throughout the week so keep posted.
