The Ultimate Bride Movies
A few weeks ago I sat down with a girlfriend on a cold, wet saturday night and watched one of my favourite movies from the 90's, Father of the Bride. I think, growing up, I had visioned my wedding day to be very similar to that of Annie's Banks' - a tall, dashing husband, a marquee wedding at home, the dress, and of course the wedding planner. I look back now and think there's no way I'd wear a dress like that and I doubt I'd ever have the patience for a planner like Franq. Although, it did get me thinking about the best wedding movies from the last few decades. They make you laugh, the can give you ideas and they're the perfect night in for you and your girls. Here's some of my fave suggestions...
Four Weddings and a Funeral 1994
Father of the Bride 1991
Bride Wars 2009
Betsy's Wedding 1990
Muriel's Wedding 1994
27 Dresses 2008
Made of Honour 2008
My Best Friend's Wedding 1997
The Wedding Planner 2001
Runaway Bride 1999

The Payoff
It sure does pay to be blantantly obvious about secret wishes and deep-seated desires... imagine my delight when I arrived at my desk to find a GORGEOUS little package.
Firstly - tiny stationery is a bit of 'thing' for me - the teeny, tiny pink envelope is definitely a keeper. Then the beautifully coordinated cotton tape in the hottest of pinks sent my heart racing...
Then to find 3 fabulous tubes of the beautifully-designed Marvis toothpastes!
Thank you soooooo much Kimberlee from Brown Button Trading - you have made my day. All I have to do now is conquer my intense desire to place these marvels into some kind of uber-chic still life, never to be touched because they're just too gorgeous to use!

Gown of the Year
I thought I'd share with you a sneak peak at the absolutely out-of-this-world Balenciaga gown that Salma Hayek wore for her second wedding ceremony to Gucci Group CEO, Francois-Henri Pinault. It's truly a magnificent gown, designed for Hayek by one of fashions most sought after men, Nicolas Ghesquiere. Once more pics are realeased I'll pop them up but until then enjoy!

Embrace Edmiston
On Tuesday 31st March Australian design legend, Leona Edmiston, hosted an afternoon tea to celebrate the launch of her Spring Summer 2009/10 collection. Held at The Rose Garden in Sydney's Royal Botanic Gardens, the event was an opportunity for guests to view Leona's new bride and bridesmaids collection. Unfortunately I was unable to attend due to shooting stories for our upcoming winter issue, on sale 24 June, however I have a couple of pics of the event to share with you. Visit www.leonaedmiston.com to find out more about the collection and to find your nearest stockist.

The Most Beautiful Brides #2
Bridal Fashion Week, New York, Spring 2010
Here's the remaining pics of my favourite collections from Bridal Fashion Week. I'm a huge fan of Angel Sanchez. His gowns are original and well structured. I also loved Amsale's gorgeous full gowns. The halterneck style is just so classy and elegant. A great selection of short dresses graced the catwalks this year so if you're in the market for a mini you'll be able to draw pleanty of inspiration from the American's.

Cute as a....
Brown Button. Our lovely friend Kimberlee from Brown Button blog has opened a store. Good on her. Honestly don't know where she finds the time to work full time, host a most-entertaining blog AND start up a webstore - but she must have super reserves of energy somewhere.
Brown Button Trading has some gorgeous products for sale. My favourite is the range of Marvis Toothpastes.
Marvis Toothpastes from $7.95 + postage
Finally I have found a tube of paste that would look good in the bathroom. Now all I have to do is find a beautiful wooden toothbrush like the ones at Baileys in the UK (have tried to buy but they only ship them with the oak holder and I don't really want that - but may be willing to buy it anyway just for the brushes!).
Toothbrush holder with toothbrush from £14 + postage
[Note to Colgate, Oral B etc... please, please, please design a range of pastes and brushes that are aesthetically pleasing whilst also doing their job.]
Now, together with the range of simply stunning products by Watkins in the US, I think I would be set.

The Most Beautiful Brides
Bridal Fashion Week, New York, Spring 2010
There's something about Bridal Fashion Week that will get any bride-to-be hyperventilating. The thought of seeing the best bridal designers and the most beautiful dresses is almost too much to bare for some. How do you choose? After going over all the gowns from all the shows I've narrowed down my list to just 19 designers. The usual suspects such as Vera, Oscar & Carolina are all there, along with a few some of you may not have heard of. The remaining nine will be uploaded later in the week. Who was your favourite?
Christos
Jenny Packham
L-R - Romona Keveza & Legends by Romona Keveza
Reem Acra
Kenneth Pool
Badgley Mischka
Oscar de la Renta
Vera Wang
Monique Lhuillier
Carolina Herrera

Autumnal Apricot
We're now in the lovely, romantic season of Autumn. You can tell because the trees are changing colours and the grass is becoming lush and green. Autumn is a great season to draw inspiration from as the rich but subtle colours can make great additions to a wedding. Apricot is such a pretty, feminine colour. I came across this amazing Notte by Marchessa gown on net-a-porter and fell in love. The colour is just divine! Back in issue 6 of Style Guide we did a super pretty apricot shoot. It's a colour that can be incorporated into a wedding in so many different ways. Fashion, cake, food, table settings, flowers... the list is endless. I've put together a Polyvore showing the plethora of ways apricot can be used. I've even incl. some gorgeous Style Guide stationery that can be purchased at our online store.
To find out more about the pieces incl. in this Polycore just click on it.

Lacey Ways
Take a peek at this lovely lacey tablecloth. It would be the perfect accessory if planning a particularly pretty setting - maybe to adorn the dessert buffet or bridal table. I like how the understated neutral colour makes an otherwise frilly pattern quite sophisticated.
The natural cotton tablecloth is £19.95 + postage from Rockett St George in the UK.
Have a look at our Moody Hues story from Issue 7 for lots of lace-inspired ideas.

This Way Please...
Let's face it - table cards can be pretty ugly and oftentimes detract from an otherwise beautiful tablesetting. After finding these on the Cafe Cartolina blog it got me thinking about nicer alternatives for table card display.
I found these from Peddler's Design in the US.
And this one from Cox & Cox in the UK.
Any one of these quirky pieces would make an interesting alternative for a rustic style wedding.
I quite like these from Caterers' Warehouse in NSW and Victoria too...
Something for everyone really.
And wouldn't this...
also from Peddler's, be a great way to direct guests to their seat if using round tables!
